Here are some suggestions of how to make the experience more pleasurable for both of you.<\/p>\n<p>Please take care that you have the necessary <b>documentation<\/b> for your pet in order to enter a country. Also please make sure that your pet is <b>micro-chipped<\/b>, in countries like Croatia it is obligatory. Do not forget to have your pet <b>vaccinated on time<\/b>, and check quarantine laws some countries require pets to be quarantined.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/71TYaJ5YeuL._SL1500_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-486\" src=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/71TYaJ5YeuL._SL1500_-1024x745.jpg\" alt=\"Croatia Yacht Charter happy dog sailing in Croatia\" width=\"1024\" height=\"745\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/71TYaJ5YeuL._SL1500_-1024x745.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/71TYaJ5YeuL._SL1500_-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/71TYaJ5YeuL._SL1500_.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Put an ID tag on your pet!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Information to include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your boat&#8217;s name, permanent marina location and slip number<\/li>\n<li>A phone contact for when you&#8217;re afloat<\/li>\n<li>A secondary phone number (such as a relative, or land based friend)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Get a personal flotation device (PFD) for your pet<\/b>, regardless of how good a swimmer your pet is, a sudden dunking can cause panic. Tip: get a brightly coloured life jacket with a handle on top, this is much easier to see and retrieve. Get the pet used to wearing the PFD before setting out. <b>\u00a0A life vest for your animal is a must.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/204415_388208184593027_1868256542_o2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-489\" src=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/204415_388208184593027_1868256542_o2.jpg\" alt=\"Croatia Yacht Charter happy cat sailing in Croatia\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/204415_388208184593027_1868256542_o2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/204415_388208184593027_1868256542_o2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Teach your dog basic safety commands<\/b>, such as stay, sit, on boat, off boat, or the all time favouirite &#8220;do your business&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><b>Make sure there are no hazardous or dangerous materials within your pet\u2019s reach.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Get seasickness medication and sunscreen for your pet.<\/b> Some of the same medications used for humans, such as Benadryl and Dramamine, also work for pets, please consult your vet before giving your pet ANY medications.<br \/>\nPets can also get sunburnt so make sure there is <b>enough shade<\/b> for them and that they <b>have enough water.<\/b> If you can, it would be smart to get a pet-friendly sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Swimming-cat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-488\" src=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Swimming-cat.jpg\" alt=\"Croatia Yacht Charter happy dog sailing in Croatia\" width=\"1023\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Swimming-cat.jpg 1023w, https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Swimming-cat-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When on shore, <b>keep your dog on a leash<\/b>, and if needed put a muzzle on the dog&#8217;s snout. This is normally necessary with the larger dog breeds or if it is demanded by local laws.<\/p>\n<p><b>To make them feel safe, bring toys and blankets it uses at home<\/b> to help. Take also your pet&#8217;s bed or basket if it is very attached to it. Do not forget its collar, leash and muzzle if needed. <b>Use a harness<\/b>, made from strong webbing material, that provides a lifting handle capable of supporting your pet&#8217;s entire weight.<\/p>\n<p>Toilet training on board. Train your dog to go on a piece of Astroturf on the foredeck. You put a small grommet in the Astroturf and tie a rope to it. \u00a0Then you can wash the Astroturf by hanging it over the edge while under way.<\/p>\n<p><b>Companionway stairs<\/b> need to be adapted for your pet, please make sure that your pet knows how to cross them and the gangway without getting hurt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/81eGdr-bLjL._SL1500_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-485\" src=\"http:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/81eGdr-bLjL._SL1500_-1024x636.jpg\" alt=\"Croatia Yacht Charter happy dog sailing in Croatia\" width=\"1024\" height=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/81eGdr-bLjL._SL1500_-1024x636.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/81eGdr-bLjL._SL1500_-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sailingplace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/81eGdr-bLjL._SL1500_.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Never tether your dog to the boat. <\/b>\u00a0In very rough conditions the dog should be below, in the cabin.
